Vintage Inspired - Burlap Lace Runner

At Kennique, we love the vintage inspired look so creating a runner that includes two vintage favs - burlap and lace - was a no brainer.
Kennique Linens, Renee’s Eventi and Unique Creations by Amalia partnered to design a vintage inspired table design featuring a new Burlap Lace runner available at Kennique Linens, the Paulette.
The guest table includes an Ivory Lamour table linen, graced with the Paulette Runner and Olive Lamour napkins.  The adjacent cocktail table is dressed in an Olive Lamour underlay and an Ivory Rachelle Lace overlay.
The floral designs, created by Unique Creations by Amalia, include an array of fresh flowers - including Succulents- Lime Chile, Little Jewel, Donde, Black Prince, Spray Roses, Mini Green hydrangeas and sword fern.

What Do Men Really Think About Weddings

So, I’m sitting in a consultation with my clients, a beautiful couple deciding on linens for their Winter Wonderland wedding.  As much as the groom tried, and boy did he try, he just couldn’t get into it all.  As the bride pawned over the different shades of white and ivory, she’d look to her hubby-to-be, his head would snap to attention and out of it a swift “sure babe,” “looks good” and on occasion “as long as you love it.”  She’d smile, roll her eyes and move on to the next shade.

As the meeting progressed, with colors and linens confirmed, I provided the itemized invoice and what do you know, phone down, eyes squared we’ve officially got his attention.  I know it sounds cliché, but is it true?  That when it comes to weddings men are only concerned about one thing – not the theme, location, colors or even the date – they only care about the COST?

What better way to find out then to ask, and that’s exactly what we did.  We called a few of our close clients, as well as two of our future grooms, and asked the million dollar question.

The reality is, yes, cost is king for men.  However, they also care about the look of the wedding.  However, in most cases while their bride will lose sleep over the latter, they’re not as dedicated to the former and that’s where the groom comes in.  Of course I want it to be nice because it’s a reflection of both of us; however in my case my wife had the design under control.  The only thing out of control was the cost” M. Hansen, 2008 Groom.

Weddings are an important moment in two people’s lives.  The wedding is not the problem, it’s when ‘the moments’ cost too much and the importance of it is over inflated,” –D. Logan, Future groom.  Girls see all the bride shows and want what they see, which for most couples is not realistic, and then they turn all Bridezilla.  No man wants to deal with that.”  You’ve got couples literally going into major debt to live up to the commercialization of weddings.  Going in debt over a wedding should never be an option or considered.”

And there you have it.  When we take a step back, while the role the groom plays in the whole wedding thing is different, it’s necessary.  In most cases, he’s the realist.  He sees beyond right now and into the future.  Yes, he wants it to be nice, but nice can happen without breaking the bank.

Okay fine, guys!  We can accept that ;)

Happy Planning!

Celebrating Erica Campbell’s Baby Zaya

On Thursday night we got a sneak peek at Grammy recording artist Erica Campbell’s baby shower on the reality show MaryMary.  This show follows the beautiful and dynamic sister gospel duo Tina and Erica Campbell.  (They both married men with the same last night…so cool!)

I’m totally in love with the theme and design of the shower.  Who says all the tables have to be the same.  The carousel theme features an array of beautiful table designs and fabulous linens in various shades of pink.   The pink and champagne color inspiration was perfect for the intimate and heartfelt event that included only their closes family and friends.  My fav table design was definitely the guest of honor table where the beautiful Erica and her hubby Warren Campbell, Grammy Award winning Producer, embraced the love.  Their table was draped in a Champagne Rosette overlay.

As if the beautiful décor wasn’t enough, what really stole the show was an amazing game played that allowed guest to form groups and write a song about baby Zaya Monique.  Among the contestants was the one and only Grammy Award Winner Jill Scott.  Of course, she won, and rightfully so.  The song she wrote was absolutely amazing…I guess that will be why she has a Grammy ;)  Check out the video below.

Perfect Wedding Guide Presents: Choosing the right colors for a summer ceremony

Summer is considered by many to be wedding season, and as many couples are eager to say "I do" under a gorgeous sun next to a beach or with mountains in the background, they first have to start with their wedding planning.

One of the many aspects of a wedding is choosing a color scheme. Having a wedding in the summer allows for some beautiful colors, causing many couples to opt for this season because of it. Also, the bride- and groom-to-be have a slew of flowers to choose from, making the ceremony and reception as beautiful as possible.

When choosing the right color scheme, couples tend to decide on either bright colors such as green or yellow, or they use pastels. The perfect summer nuptials use these hues for the bridesmaids dresses. The groomsmen could also wear white jackets with the color that the bride and groom choose as an accent to the outfit. This way, the entire wedding party ties in together and complements the color scheme of the whole event.

Linens 101 for Events on a Budget

It’s a simple equation, the more people you invite, the more money your event will cost.  Now of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but typically this equation checks out.
Unfortunately, if you’re talking about a wedding reception or formal event the same rings true for your table linens.  We all know that the perfect table linens can transform a wedding or event.  However, that transformation comes with a price, and the more people you have, the more the price.
So, what can you do to keep your table linens cost manageable?   Well, here are three recommendations that have helped our clients.
1.       Don’t replace, enhance.   If your venue provides basic white linens, instead of replacing them, consider enhancing the look with an overlay or runner.  Add even more drama by dressing your cake and/or head tables in specialty linens.

2.       Chair covers and sashes are PER each.   Typically, in regards to linens, the sticker shock for most clients comes from the chair covers and sashes.  Let’s say you have a guest list of 200 people.  A basic chair cover may run you about $2.50 (on the low end) = $500.00.  Let’s say you want Satin sashes and they’re $1 each.  You’re now at $700 and you haven’t even begun to dress your table.   If this scenario is causing you some anxiety, consider selecting a venue with chairs that will NOT require chair covers.  At the very least, think this through before you commit to your venue.

3.       Lastly, consider Solid Taffeta linens.  They’re what I call a best kept secret for events on a budget.  These linens are easier on the budget, but absolutely stunning on the eyes.

Be realistic!  Know upfront that if you must have a large guest list, and your budget is limited, you’ll have to make some concessions.    If you don’t have an Event Planner, ask your local linen provider to help you think through options, based on what’s available at your venue.

Wedding Trends: The Color of 2012

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Wedding Trends for 2012: Wedding Gowns: Brides.com

We saw lots of unique necklines this season, but "most spotted" goes to the illusion style, in which a sheer, delicate, and often embellished layer of fabric veils skin that would otherwise be exposed. (Think of illusion as "strapless, with coverage," noting its power to transform a sassy, "look at my boobs" situation into something soft, elegant, and romantic.)
